LAKEWOOD, WA— South Sound Football Club returns to Harry Lang Stadium on Sunday May 1 to play Vancouver Victory FC in both side’s 2016 Evergreen Premier League debuts. The clubs have finished second and third in the first two seasons of the league.

The South Sound Shock have been close the last two years, but have finished second both times. They have had just enough to top Vancouver Victory, but not quite enough to topple two-time defending champions Spokane Shadow. South Sound did bring home a nice prize last year, though. They won the U-23 USASA National Title.
The Shock did not have a busy pre-season in terms of publicised matches. They did get some quality work in at Kitsap Pumas, where they lost 3-1 to the professional club. Vancouver Victory got around a bit more, playing in a tournament, hosting local school Clark College and recently traveling to Corvallis for a pretty solid result – a 2-1 win over the Pac-12 Oregon State Beavers.
Historically, it’s always been tough for Vancouver to find goals against South Sound. The two first met in May of 2014 in a match that went to the Shock, 4-1. The second leg in 2014 also went to South Sound as they posted a 2-0 win at Vancouver.
In 2015 the Shock continued to shut down the Victory in their next meeting, giving up just one goal in a 2-1 home triumph. In the return engagement the Shock defense did one better, taking a 1-0 shutout win in Vancouver.
The Shock are 4-0-0 all-time against the club that has finished each season just one natch below them. The South Sound goal lead in the series is 9-2.
The match is the second half of a doubleheader at Harry Lang. The South Sound Women of the new Northwest Premier League (NWPL) will host the Twin City Union at 1 PM.
