LAKEWOOD, WA — South Sound Football Club concluded a wild weekend in the Evergreen Premier League with a 2-1 win over Bellingham United at Harry Lang Stadium. The result meant that the league’s top spot was held by three different clubs over three days.

Bellingham United was top of the table on Friday as they embarked on what everyone knew would be an important road swing through Vancouver and Lakewood. On Saturday the Vancouver Victory dazzled in a 5-1 win over the Hammers to pass them and South Sound into the top spot. Sunday it was South Sound’s turn to play leap-frog and they did so on a long-range first half strike and an exchange of penalty kicks in the second.

The Shock now have 16 points after six matches on a 5-0-1 record. Vancouver is second with 15 points after seven matches, 5-2-0. Bellingham United is third with 13 points on eight matches, at 4-3-1.
On Sunday the Shock took the lead in the 38th minute when Miguel Angeles won the ball on an open-field tackle and shot true from distance to push the back of the Bellingham net.
The second half was tight and several chances went begging both ways before the Shock got some breathing room when Daniel Gray converted a penalty kick at 78 minutes.
Soon after the Hammers were awarded a PK of their own. Tyler Bjork converted and it was 2-1 in the 83rd.
The first-ever EPLWA meeting of the Shock and the Hammers ended a few minutes later with no further scoring.
South Sound hosts WestSound on June 14 at 1 PM at Lincoln High School (venue & time change). The Hammers get back home after four matches away when they host Yakima United at 3 PM on Sunday June 8Â at Civic Stadium.
