LAKEWOOD, WA — The South Sound Shock had a stellar first half on Saturday night May 24 at Harry Lang Stadium, scoring three goals in an eventual 4-1 win over the visiting Vancouver Victory FC.
Video Highlights

The Shock got going early after a scrum in the Vancouver penalty area eventually gave them a 1-0 advantage in the 7th minute on what was ruled an own goal by the Victory. Just a few minutes later it was 2-0 when Shock midfielder Daniel Gray blasted a free kick from beyond the 18 yard box past Vancouver goalkeeper Sean Irwin in the 13th minute.
The Shock had quietly added former MLS player (San Jose Earthquakes) and Tacoma native Joey Gjertsen to their roster this week. Joey started and it paid off when he beat Irwin one-on-one in the 36th minute and walked the ball into the goal for a 3-0 South Sound lead. The assist went to Daniel Gray.

Jordan Jones pulled one back for the Victory in the 75th.
There was no doubt about the final outcome for the 203 fans on hand after South Sound’s captain Micah Wenzel converted a penalty kick in the 86th minute to establish the 4-1 final score.
The match result means the end of Vancouver’s four-match winning streak and puts South Sound back on top of the EPLWA table going into Sunday’s matches.
The Shock remain unbeaten at 4-0-1 ( 13 points) while the Victory fall to 4-2-0 (12 points.)
Vancouver Coach Filomon Afenegus reflected on how the night went for his team. “We made mistakes, we were punished for our mistakes and South Sound is a very experienced team who managed their lead very well. We have some things to work on and tighten up if we are going to compete with teams like this.”
