LAKEWOOD, WA — A scoreless first half was answered with three goals in the second as South Sound Football Club edged visiting Wenatchee United 2-1 at Harry Lang Stadium on Saturday night May 10. The Shock have now scored five of their six goals on the season in the second half.

South Sound had the better of the chances overall leading up to their initial strike while Wenatchee were staying close and improving over their opening performance a week earlier. Finally in the 61st minute the Shock broke through as they pushed up the left side and Daniel Gray spotted Pico Rubio. Rubio shot a nice bending ball low to the turf from 18 yards out that curled around Wenatchee goalkeeper Danny Romero and inside the right post. 1-0 to the home side.
South Sound appeared to clinch the match in the 74th when a Daniel Gray corner kick found Scotty Hanson at the far post. Hanson nudged the ball home for a 2-0 SSFC advantage. However United answered right back in the 76th when Christian Nyanfore lurked outside the top of the box and lofted a clever ball over Shock goalkeeper Chris Kintz. It was 2-1 and match on.
The clubs exchanged a few chances the rest of the way but the Shock held on to take their home debut. The match was watched by 260 fans in occasional rain and cool temperatures.
South Sound improves to 3-0-0 while Wenatchee falls to 0-2-0. Next Sunday May 18 the Shock host the Spokane Shadow at 2 PM at Harry Lang Stadium. Wenatchee travels to Vancouver for a match against the Victory on May17.
