Wenatchee United FC hopes to blossom on festival weekend

WENATCHEE, WA— Wenatchee United FC is hoping to put a memorable punctuation point on this year’s Washington State Apple Blossom Festival.

United players will participate in the Apple Blossom Grand Parade on Saturday May 3 and then will play Bellingham United on Sunday May 4 in the Apple Bowl at the end of the festival. It should be a great way to introduce the new club to the town. www.WenUTD.com.

“The players are really getting pumped up and excited,” WUFC head coach John Wright tells EPLWA.com. “They get to ride in the Apple Blossom Parade on Saturday to promote the club and our home opener and then play Sunday. The team is excited to be able to represent our community and play in front of friends and family. It will be a special weekend.”

Last weekend United traveled over the mountains and to the peninsula to play in the Rumble in the Rainforest. They contested two 60-minute matches against quality sides.

“I really found out how deep we are in most of the positions. It will be a challenge to me to make an 18 man roster week in and week out. Everyone deserves minutes,” says Wright of the lessons learned from the trip.

Wenatchee came close to beating the two-time defending NWAACC champion Peninsula Pirates in their first scrimmage at the Rumble. The post and crossbar got in the way in the final seconds of a 0-0 draw.

In the second scrimmage WUFC fell 2-0 to the professional PDL Kitsap Pumas.

Are United ready for their big debut? “We still have a couple players in college and won’t make it to our home opener but will join us shortly after in mid May,” Wright says. But he’s on board with getting things underway.

“I am happy that it is finally here. I love preparing teams to play and I am ready to start fixing the things we need to work at and continuing to get better each week. I am happy for the players who get to experience playing for our new home town club. (There are) exciting times ahead.”
