The Evergreen Premier League (EPLWA) is excited to make our relationship with Viking Design Studio official with the announcement that they are the Official Graphic Design Partner of the EPLWA.
Timothy Hamilton of Viking Design Studio has been with us all along, from the earliest discussions of forming the league to designing the logo we proudly use to represent our soccer movement. He has worked behind the scenes with several of our clubs, and continues to do so. Viking Design Studio also created and developed the Wenatchee United FC crest.

“My love of soccer started virtually from birth,” Timothy tells EPLWA.com. “I think I could kick a ball before I could walk. My childhood dream was to play for Colo-Colo, the local team where my family lived in Santiago, Chile. The more I traveled around the world over the years, the more teams I adopted along the way. Some teams I now support are top flight teams, others are buried deep in the lower divisions. All this gave me a well-rounded soccer education. And of course the most important things you learn supporting any team are the crests and colors of your team and all your rivals. You learn to spot a rival supporter across a crowded street.”
For Hamilton the look of soccer crests was a catalyst for learning to make his own designs. “My knowledge and curiosity of team crests and colors grew as I became more interested in graphic design. I remember as a teenager making up leagues and teams, always designing their crests and jerseys. The more I learned about graphic design the more high tech this game became. It started with paper and pencils and ended up on high end design software. When opportunity came to design for real teams, I could hardly contain myself. This is what I had done for fun for years, and now I was getting paid for it. And it seems to me that there is a shortage of professional graphic designers here in America who have a strong knowledge of soccer and soccer design, which has its own unique qualities and challenges. That’s when I decided to set up Viking Design Studio as a logo specialist with a strong focus on soccer crests.”
The launch of the Evergreen Premier League was boosted by Hamilton’s Washington state outline and player design. It seems almost “iconic” now, though the league as yet to play a match and the logo itself it just a half a year old. Timothy and Viking Design Studio will continue to assist the EPLWA with its graphic design needs.
“I take inspiration from traditional soccer crests from around the world when working on designs,” Hamilton confides. “I’m passionate about seeing teams, especially local teams, look like they belong among the teams of the world. Just because a team is small doesn’t mean it has to look unprofessional. If soccer is to be taken seriously in this country it has to look the part. And that doesn’t mean throwing out everything American and making teams look “European” either, because a big part of any soccer crest is its connection to the community it represents. Hopefully it does it in a subtle way, focusing on tradition and history.”

About the EPLWA
The Evergreen Premier League is an elite adult men’s soccer league for college and post-college age players to feature their skills on hometown clubs throughout the state of Washington. The league’s mission is to cultivate “football club” culture while providing opportunities for coaches, owners, supporters, players and towns to enjoy the sport and all of the community-building it can bring. The EPLWA is affiliated with the Washington State Adult Soccer Association, the United States Adult Soccer Association, US Soccer and FIFA. Players maintain amateur status.
The EPLWA (pronounced E-P-L ‘wah’) will kick off in late April 2014 with its debut season in these Washington cities: Bellingham United FC (Bellingham), South Sound FC (Tacoma), Wenatchee United FC (Wenatchee), Seattle Stars FC (Tukwila), WestSound FC (Silverdale), Spokane Shadow (Spokane), Vancouver Victory FC (Vancouver, WA) and Yakima United FC (Yakima).
