WENATCHEE, WA— Wenatchee United FC are putting together their season roster after hosting a successful set of open tryouts. Head Coach John Wright says WenUTD will be a solid mix of youth and experience.
“We were very pleased with the number and overall talent that turned out for open tryouts. The first day we had 67 registered candidates and after the first day we invited 44 callbacks to return the next day. We have a good mix of Wenatchee based talent and also young men who will return to North Central Washington (NCW) from various colleges and universities in Washington, Oregon and Idaho.”
WUFC has already announced a handful of players.  Their official roster page shows four names so far: Eleazar Lee Galvan, Johnathan Rodriguez, Angel Guerra and Eduardo Perez.

“I would say about 80% of our team is made up of local NCW talent from Wenatchee, Leavenworth, Chelan and Quincy. The other 20% includes players from out of the area who heard about our team and league and decided to give it a shot. We have a nice mix of U23 and seasoned post college veterans.”
Wright describes his philosophy using the words strong and work. “I believe players want to learn, they want to be taught to be held to a high standard on and off the pitch. I stress individual accountability and responsibility but also teamwork through discipline, initiative and a strong work ethic. Part of my responsibility is to nurture all this to build a strong team with character.”

Wright’s style is to adapt to the talent he’s given. “I like to think I can adapt my own style of play to my players style. My direct approach includes having a well constructed defense that really enables us to attack from the back, allowing speed and a free flowing style. I also incorporate possession football that depends on quality attacking players.”
Evergreen Premier League soccer might be an adult playground, but the real world is a part of the picture, says Wright. “I think the most challenging part is being able to play as a team right away. We have quality individual players but to be able to mesh right away we will need a lot of time on the training ground. Being a team in a semi pro league will have its challenges. As many if not all the players have a regular job that can have scheduling conflicts some times.”
Wenatchee United FC will debut in the EPLWA on Sunday May 4 at 4:00 PM in the Apple Bowl when they host Bellingham United FC.
