SAN DIEGO, CA—Region IV of the United States Adult Soccer Association held its annual meeting and workshops January 4th and 5th, 2014 at Hyatt Regency Mission Bay in San Diego, California. Region IV consists of the following states: Alaska, Arizona, California-North, California-South, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. 85 league administrators, players and referees took part in the event.

The workshops covered a variety of topics related to adult amateur soccer: Insurance, USASA Staff and Services, Grants, Working with local governments, How to start and run Tournaments, Women’s Development, and Region IV Development which was present by EPLWA President Peter Ostrovsky and WSASA President Tim Busch.
Peter Ostrovsky did a PowerPoint presentation on the how the EPLWA was founded, examples of the success that Bellingham United has had the last couple of years and plans to fully develop sponsorship, referees, media and other aspects of league. As Peter said in his presentation, the EPLWA can be a model for a successful grassroots adult premier program for not only our region but for USASA nationally. A total of 40 people attended the two sessions. There is a great deal of interest in Region IV about the EPLWA. Tim Busch informed everyone that he would provide a detailed report on the first year of EPLWA operations at the USASA Mid-Year meeting in Florida in October 2014.
“By attending the workshops, I gained new perspectives on the inner workings of adult soccer both at the regional and national level,” says Ostrovsky. “I was also able to make valuable contacts with the US Adult Soccer Association (USASA) staff and counterparts in other Region IV state associations and leagues.”
Region IV recognizes a referee of the year, as well as administrators who have contributed to the growth of soccer in the Western United States. Sean McNulty of California-North, Roger Hamilton of Oregon and Tim Busch of Washington were all inducted into the USASA Region IV Ricardo Quintanilla Hall of Fame.
